How does a WSHO work?
Safety professionals with fundamental knowledge and experience in occupational safety, health, and the environment are known as workplace safety and health officers (WSHOs). A WSHO's primary responsibility is to protect lives and prevent property and environmental damage.
Singapore's Workplace Safety and Health (Workplace Safety and Health Officers) Regulations regulate WSHOs. In accordance with the Regulations, WSHOs must be appointed in shipyards, factories that process petroleum or petroleum products, factories where building operations or engineering construction are carried out for a contract value of S$10 million or more, and other factories with 100 or more employees. A WSHO must first complete a training course and have at least two years of relevant experience relevant to the work to be performed by a WSHO in Singapore before becoming a WSHO.
