What is Quality Management ?

Management of quality is the act of overseeing all activities and tasks required to maintain a desired level of excellence. This includes the determination of a quality policy, creating and implementing quality planning and assurance, and quality control and quality improvement. It is also referred to as total quality management (TQM). In general, quality management focuses on long-term goals through the implementation of short-term initiatives.

Businesses seek to maintain or improve product quality through quality control (QC). Quality control is a key component of quality management.

In order to maintain quality control, the company needs to create an environment where both management and employees strive for perfection. Personnel are trained, benchmarks for product quality are created, and products are tested for statistically significant variations.

Establishing well-defined controls is a key component of quality control. Standardizing both production and response to quality issues is possible through these controls. Limiting the room for error by specifying which production activities are to be done by which personnel reduces the possibility of employees performing tasks for which they lack the necessary training.
