Roles and responsibilities
In order to create a safe workplace, the organization's WSH protocols must be implemented and maintained by the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Officer. He or she investigates incidents and finds instances where organizational protocols and legal WSH obligations are not being followed. He or she reports on the status of remedial and preventive measures implemented in designated areas and assesses the risks related to the hazards found in the workplace. Additionally, he or she attends meetings of the Vessel Safety Coordination Committee (VSCC) and may serve as secretary to take minutes. As part of his job, the WSH Officer must perform inspections on the shop floor, in dry docks, and aboard ships while working outside. To enforce safety compliance at work, he or she must be physically fit to the required level, have excellent observation skills, and be well-versed in WSH regulations.  An applicant should have a relevant degree approved by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). 

Involvement in tasks
1. Examine information about workplace safety and health (WSH) procedures, conditions, and performance.
2. Conduct inspections for WSH compliance.
3. Make the requirements of the WSH program clear to staff members in other departments.
4. Teach team members how to regularly assess work activities.
5. Investigate accidents and WSH incidents.
6. Analyze reports from the Workplace Safety and Health Management System (WSHMS).
7. Organize emergency response equipment maintenance and Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan (EPRP) exercises.
8. Organize the WSH program's activities.
9. Create and present safety instructions.
10. To find WSH performance gaps, assess unsafe work practices, non-compliance, and other issues.
