Cleaning courses fall under the Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) framework for the Environmental Services (ES) industry. They provide cleaners with certified skills that can lead to career progression, with courses offered for different career levels—from entry-level general cleaners to supervisors.
WSQ environmental cleaning framework
The WSQ framework for environmental cleaning in Singapore has three certificate levels:
WSQ Certificate in Environmental Services: For cleaning crew.
WSQ Higher Certificate in Environmental Cleaning: For team leaders.
WSQ Advanced Certificate in Environmental Cleaning: For supervisors.
Core modules
Core modules cover foundational skills for cleaners, including Workplace Safety and Health (WSH), cleaning chemical handling, and maintenance for various surfaces like floors and washrooms. Customer service and the use of automated cleaning tools are also included.
Modules for supervisors
Supervisors' modules include advanced cleaning techniques and management skills such as supervisory WSH, on-the-job training, and scheduling and supervision of cleaning services.
Progressive Wage Model (PWM) requirements
The PWM requires Singaporean and Permanent Resident cleaners to complete WSQ training. The number of required modules varies by job level and is necessary for cleaning business licenses. Cleaning crews and team leaders must complete at least one WSH and one core module.
