The process hazard analysis is a thorough, orderly, structured approach for identifying, evaluating, and limiting the hazards of processes involving highly hazardous chemicals.
The employer must perform a primary process hazard analysis on all processes covered by this standard.
The process hazard analysis methodology selected must be appropriate to the complexity of the progress and must identify, evaluate, and limit the hazards involved in the process.
First, employers must decide and document the priority order for conducting progress hazard analyses based on a rationale that includes such considerations as the area of the process hazards, the number of potentially stricken employees, the age of the process, and the operating history of the progress.
All progress hazard analyses must be upgraded and revalidated, based on their execution date, at least every five years.
