Workplace Safety and Health Practices implementation in Environmental Services (Level 1)

This course provides foundational knowledge and skills for individuals looking to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. It focuses on the basics of workplace safety and the initial steps needed to implement health and safety practices effectively. Participants will learn how to identify risks, create safety policies, and apply basic safety measures to reduce workplace hazards and accidents.
1. Provides an overview of workplace safety and health, covering personal hygiene, common workplace signage for hazard warnings, adherence to organizational control measures such as personal protective equipment, and reporting procedures to supervisors
2. Equips learners with skills to identify and report hazards, unsafe conditions, and workplace risks. They will learn to use personal protective equipment and safety devices associated with workplace equipment and machinery, and understand the importance of emergency preparedness and workplace training.
3. Focuses on different types of workplace emergencies and the use of emergency equipment. Learners will follow instructions from authorized personnel during both real and simulated emergency situations, and comply with infectious disease outbreak protocols as required by regulatory bodies.
The job role(s) / occupations that this unit would be relevant to may include the following parties related to / in the process industry:
• Cleaners (general, industrial, and specialized)
• Waste collection crew
• Pest control workers
• Landscape maintenance staff
• Anyone entering the environmental services industry for the first time
• Especially those deployed at public premises, residential, healthcare, or industrial sites
Learners are assumed to:

1. Have basic supervision skills
2. Have basic knowledge of the Singapore Workplace Safety and Health requirements
3. Have basic knowledge of Safety management system
4. Have basic knowledge of personal protective equipment (PPE)
5. Be able to follow written and oral work instructions
6. Be able to listen, read, speak and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System (ESS) level 2
7. Be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to Employability Skills System (ESS) level 2

Upon successful completion of the course a Statement of Attainment (SOA) will be awarded by Skills Future Singapore Agency (SSG)
